Drop Off Done Right

Heading to a convenience center or a transfer station? A little preparation can make your trip smoother, safer, and more efficient for everyone.

What are Convenience Centers and Transfer Stations?

Convenience centers and transfer stations are facilities where residents can bring waste, recyclables, and green materials for proper disposal. Materials are sorted and transported to appropriate processing or disposal sites.

Where can I find a Convenience Center or Transfer Station?

There are 7 convenience centers (Waimānalo, Wai‘anae, Waipahu, ‘Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Lāʻie, and Wahiawā) and 3 transfer stations (Kapa‘a, Kawailoa, and Ke‘ehi) on Oʻahu. Green waste can also be taken to Hawaiian Earth Recycling in Wahiawā to be composted.

Before You Go

  • Sort your materials (trash, recyclables, green waste)
  • Secure your load for transport to prevent materials from falling out and polluting our storm drains and oceans. Check out our blog for loading tips.
  • Check accepted items and hours of operation here. Find more information about rules for residential drop off here.

Drop-Off Dos

  • Follow posted signs and staff instructions
  • Unload materials in designated areas only
  • Bring help if you’re unloading heavy items
  • Be mindful of other users and vehicles

Drop-Off Don’ts

  • Don’t leave items outside the facility or after hours
  • Don’t mix hazardous waste with regular trash
  • Don’t overload bins or block access areas
  • Don’t rush. Safety comes first.

Why It Matters

Proper use of convenience centers and transfer stations helps:

  • Keep reusable and recyclable materials out of landfills
  • Prevents illegal dumping
  • Protects workers and the public

Dropping off your waste the right way helps to keep Hawaiʻi clean and safe for kamaʻāina and visitors.
